Course Description
This class provides an in-depth timeline tracing the origins and cultural significance of sacred sound instruments used today. From the first sound tools crafted by humans to the most popular instruments used in sound baths, this course explores their stories and original purposes. Ethnomusicologist Mitch Nur, who has extensively studied instruments such as gongs, singing bowls, Peruvian shamanic whistles, and more, offers a well-researched perspective on how these instruments have evolved across centuries.
Course Objectives
- Explore the historical emergence of sacred sound instruments and their cultural significance.
- Understand the traditional uses of instruments like gongs, singing bowls, and shamanic whistles.

Who Can Take Electives?
- You do not need to be registered in the School of Sound Foundational Diploma Program to take an elective.
- Everyone is open to taking our electives.
- If, after taking an elective you decide to join the Foundational Diploma Program, credits have earned will be applied to your 24 hours of elective requirements.

Mitch Nur is a Ethnomusicologist and musician who has studied and used many of todays sound tools such as Gongs, Singing Bowls and bells, Peruvian Shamanic Whistles, and dozens more. The oldest soundworker in the USA.
